April 2025
30-Second Short Film created using a ICVFX screen at Star Labs for the Virtual Production Vertical Studio 206 Class.
This was my first foray into digital compositing, VFX, and compositing/grading with 4k raw footage from a digital camera.
I learned a lot from this experience, interacting with a physical set and getting a stronger grasp of the relationship between real life footage and CG images.

Using Blender’s Motion Tracking solver to create a 3D scene with correct camera movement. Allows me to model and edit assets directly on top of the footage which made it easier to make tweaks and adjustments.

Houdini simulation created using Vellum solver. Exported as a VDB and imported into Blender to render out with imported Unreal Environment as holdout for seamless compositing. Blender’s principled volume gave more customization for the look of the snow, allowing for adding noise to the density and rendered with greater accuracy and depth than Unreal can.

Color grading using Davinci Resolve’s intuitive color transformation features. Made use of Resolve’s automatic tracking to track a mask on the face and allowed for keyframing the color correction of the blue light on his face.

All sounds and music were put together and created inside of Reaper. Reaper is a digital audio workstation which offers professional level of technical flexibility for designing sound and music. Has a built-in video viewer, making it a great choice for developing sound for pre-edited footage.

Credits created using Davinci Resolve’s Title+ generator, which offered a wide range of customizability in transforming the text and animating them.

Created Visualization Logo animation inside of Blender. An extra bonus for finishing the short film early.
